Arthurian League 1-1 Southern Amateur League

Dulwich Hamlet F. C., 4th March 2009, 7.30pm KO

This was another home fixture for the Arthurian League at Dulwich Hamlet against a highly regarded Southern Amateur League side. Out of a squad of 14 players, the Arthurian team had 8 players making their debuts. So we had a mighty task ahead of us taking on an SAL side that has represented England in an international competition.

The game kicked off at 7.30pm and both sides set about getting as good a start as possible. It was real end-to-end stuff for the entire first half, played at a very high tempo. Both sides created good chances. The decisive move of the half came on the half hour mark, when Quentin Baker (Old Harrovians) played a perfectly weighted ball through to Fabian Joseph (Old Westminsters) who lifted the ball over the oncoming 'keeper with a sublime finish.

The second half saw the SAL start to dominate possession and carve out several chances, only to be thwarted by James Butcher (Lancing Old Boys) who was in inspired from, making several fine saves. Around the hour mark, the SAL drew level after the home side were caught in possession on the left flank. However, from that moment on, the game was evenly played and if anything the Arthurian team could have nicked it at the end. All in all, a fair result and one that gives great credit to the Arthurian League.
